Organic Farming

Take care of the land and it will take of us. Sustainable, earth-friendly, beyond organic farming practices are absolutely paramount for everything that HRNV grows. Our priority is to organically preserve, protect, and maintain our plant resources for the ecological value of future generations. In addition, we believe that only organic and sustainable farming can produce quality end results, including complex, fruity olives, wine grapes with character and distinction, and amber, pure honey.

We are certified organic by California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF). But in addition, we encourage the systemic, natural inhabitants of the land to participate in what we grow. We build nests for barn owls and predatory birds for rodent control, provide hospitable environments for helpful insects, and plant crop cover for nitrogen and soil erosion control.

We also make hundreds of yards of our own compost and compost tea to fertilize our 25 acres of vegetation, carefully recycling all paper, cardboard, and cuttings; and flowers, fruit, and vegetable waste. What we don’t make ourselves we supplement with a completely natural fish fertilizer emulsion.
