Solar Energy

We fuel ourselves and our crops by our sweat, our stamina, and the sun. Not only do we power the entire property – the pumps for the wells, the workshop, and our homes – on nearly 100 percent solar energy, but we also have our meters spinning backwards, meaning we sell solar power back to the grid, offsetting about 30 tons of carbon every year.

We installed our 2,000 square feet of solar panels ourselves in 2004, and the system paid for itself in about three years. Utilizing the power that is naturally available to us is part of our dedication to future farming and a preserved ecosystem.
